Pencil Rubbings

When walking round the sculpture park i took some pencil rubbings on different surfaces such as tree bark, bricks and interesting surfaces on sculptures. The one surface that gave the best markings was a brick wall from a church. The bricks were large with deep lines running through them creating a sandy rock look. It was quite rough so i took a few rubbings.
The first one i did in sections on the page. This also includes some markings form other surfaces. I let them overlap and afterwards i drew rough lines in fineliner in empty spaces, creating a brick formation look. The pencil overlaps and goes in all directions but the fine lines around them help clean up the whole page. It also makes it easier to look closely at the page and look at different rubbings as they are in sections.
The next page was of a specific brick that had some really deep lines that show up on the page. It looks like a predator animal had clawed the brick but the pencil markings soften the look. I wish i didn't try going in another direction as it didn't really work. I pressed down around the dips in the brick so the lines would show up more.
