Artificial Land

This observational drawing was a zoom in on the leaves surrounding the artwork. I liked the leaves as the artificial colours were interesting and helped created the idea of this false world and not a realistic place. It made me think about how some fantasies can look identical to reality but have small aspects altered or how dreams can play on the real world but give it away that it's not real when you notice a small mistake in little detail.
This particular artwork also made me think about the red queen from Alice in Wonderland with the crimson red leaves and long walkway to the church i just thought about the servants painting the roses red. Again this idea continued to the fact that Alice had to shrink to get in to Wonderland therefore giving the idea of people living in doll houses etc. The idea of tiny people living in doll houses use to creep me out but at the same time it was intriguing with the thought of my own dolls being alive when i wasn't playing with them.
I quickly sketched this using fineliner, red ink pen and graphite with a blue crayon. I drew the leaf shapes and did minimal detail, i was more interested in the colours  and how the leaves create a wild border around the image. I like the simplicity of the shapes and block colours, however the blue pencil wasn't really good and it was difficult to make markings with it on the page. Despite the faint blue leaves working well with the whole image it might have worked better if i could focus on creating the shapes much stronger as they almost look lost. Another thing on the page is dotted holes from when i was testing if my sewing machine worked. Even though it was done before i drew over it i feel it is part of the piece, even though i can't work out why the two parallel lines add a sense of unplanning to the whole sketch i think i would like to use the dotted holes on other pieces like create shape or details on another drawing.
