I tried to create my own lines by moving objects and piling them together. Although the moving of the objects was interesting to see what i could do, i also found it difficult to create stubborn lines that became the focus of the image. When looking at the photos you get drawn to the objects more. Ti improve this i think i would need to think about colour and lighting. All the objects and background should be plain and the same colour that way the shadows created between the gaps show up more boldly in the photo making it the focus.
Next i looked into lights. I didn't want to manipulate the lighting too much i wanted to experiment with it more naturally. I found if i moved my camera quickly when taking the photo it would blur and stretch the light. So i focused on moving light, blurred photos of cras like this are very eccentric as it expresses the neon lights at night. I filled a jar that had a line design on the glass. I filled it with neon christmas lights hoping to get a shadow, however i did not get a shadow. I would need a bolder, opaque design and brighter lights to create shadows that clear.
Instead i got an interesting design. Amongst the lights i noticed some were straight lines but i felt it wasn't clear enough. I started looking through my camera closely at the jar whilst moving the view to see what i saw. Some parts of the glass distorted the lights, like on the lid, creating lines. I also found an interesting neon design when close up on the lights. The lights almost look alive or like some sort of non human DNA design. There was a mix of circles hidden within any of the neon lights but some of them stretched out creating a thin line or tail like look. Despite how mesmerising they are to look at, there still wasn't much line .
I went back to looking at moving lights to stretch them out and create lines. I began with moving my camera as i took the photo again but soon developed that into rolling the jar and moving the camera as i got a better reaction. I tried different angles and direction to move the lights in different ways. I think this could be interesting to develop by using different lights with various sizes and colours therefore creating a mood when looking at the image and seeing how the colours mix when photographed. Lastly, i took photos with my hand on the jar still to see how the lights recated when my hand was blocking some passage. I think this could be developed too by using different objects with shapes and place them in front of the lights. That way by finding a way to make the lights move around the objects and have its dark silhouette illuminated by the light blur from behind/around it.
My final experiment i went back to looking at gaps. This time i decided to cut lines out of photos to see if it had an effective outcome. I think this works best when there are obvious lines to follow otherwise the gaps look lost in the photo. Additionally, it needs to focus on both the photo and whatever is shown in the gap otherwise its not clear. This could be done best by having good lighting and bright colours or huge objects that can be noticeable in the gap. Furthemore, a colour scheme that is picked up both in the photo and background could help. Instead of natural scenery in the gap i could of replaced it with a patterned paper/fabric or used clear, coloured plastic so the gap is more obvious in the photo as it appears bolder. It may also help to have the scenery around the photo as well so it's more obvious.
