I don't like this drawing the quality is bad as i wasn't really sure how to tackle it all, therefore lost any technique. I shaded using pencil doing small markings on the page without removing my pencil. I did try rubbing off some areas to create some light but as i hadn't built up enough shading there was no effect. As i was not satisfied i then added some details with fine liner but didn't go over everything. Im impatient with shading in small detail like this hence why its not finished so i need faster techniques.
This quick sketch of some shetland ponies were from a picture i took of some years ago in a field. I stuck to minimal lines and focused on making it look more realistic. This technique needs some time to rub areas out and redo so it looks right, it doesn't really give me the quick freedom i want as it needs to be neat.
This drawing lost some features when i added shading with charcoal pencils. The shading is rough and doesn't really help but i rubbed some off on the back leg that helped add definition, this style still needs more improvement.
I dislike this quick pencil drawing as it doesn't look right. Some shading is alright on the chest area but the entire head is drawn badly and i couldn't fix it. I struggled with drawing hair making me lose realistic quality. I don't know why but i find it hard to draw men sometimes, if i do a close up of the face and focus on detail it works but that's not a quick sketch.
I tried a more simple, cartoon like style as it could work as an easy template to work some features into. Although i think this worked out quite well, it looks right at me i still don't feel satisfied as it is not realistic.
I had another go using some coloured pens i had as i have not really used them before. I chose three colours to create some shading but i think it looks messy with the clean lined drawing. The quick colouring could work if the drawing itself wasn't so neat, however i do like the use of the three colours to create shading.
I developed the use of the colours on this piece and really like this outcome. Instead of just colouring some areas i did short, quick singular lines so it didn't look messy. The shading really makes the picture look interesting picking up on the dark and light areas. It's quite simple and i will definitely be developing this.
I had another go at using charcoal. I'm still not satisfied with it as when i use white to lighten an area it never seems to have any effect. However, i did get some dark tones to work then i used a rubber to lighten other areas. I still haven't achieved getting detail with charcoal or getting a smooth finish on the page.
I decided to draw this one out with the charcoal pencil, then smoothing some areas to make them look softly shaded. I don't think i worked on the shading on the angel enough. I did do it as if a light was shining on them, hence a shadow against the background. Some areas do need more shading where the body parts bend and huddle together.
Using shading pencils i developed the shading aspect of the drawing before. I did build up the shading more but it still needs more. Sometimes the pencil just wouldn't make much of an effect once some shading was already done. I took more care with this one but it still needs some more time to get to the right level of depth created by darker tones in shading.
I like the quality and technique of this drawing. I did a mix of small squiggly lines and some light shading with pencil markings. It was a lot easier to shade areas and for it to flow in to lighter areas. I feel it picks up on smaller details more and definitely works for me. However, i still draw the general image normally and then use this technique over it but i want the technique to be the style i draw win to begin with.
I did a quick sketch using a fine liner. I wanted to include some natural detail/shading without doing a full on techniques like cross hatching. It did work but im not completely satisfied with my quality of drawing but that is something that i need to develop in the long run.
This drawing started a sa quick doodle on the little slip of paper. I then developed it into this drawing by covering an area with the piece paper and working out of it, i thought it looked cool sticking it down out of place. For the drawing technique i used biro as i find shading easy with that and did a mix of tight and large quick scribbles. This is a basic technique but i find it easy and wanted to do it to pick up my drawing skill again. Then i added some highlighter on lighter areas to see how it looked and i think it works when not too much is on obviously.
This drawing i did quickly using biro again. I started doing a much looser style of scribbling and wanted to see where it would take me. Eventually it developed into a zigzag motion which i found easy and simple but wasn't sure with how it worked on detail .
I did a quick sketch doing a little cross hatching. I love drawings with cross hatching but i can never get it to the level of skill i've seen. I know it's all about proactive but i can never even do simple cross hatching right i struggle to pick it up and stick to it. I stuck this little drawing to a piece of scrap paper i had with paint markings on. I decided to use it up otherwise i probably never will. I used a fineliner to write the dream message as it connects to my topic and the girl looks like she is sleeping.
