Trapped in a Box

I like this little piece as it is subtle but conveys a message that everyone experiences. When growing up you move on from the playing pretend age, the believing in magic and move on. However, whenever you see old toys you remember how you use to play with them, same with childhood tv shows. People hold onto their memories and miss being a child. This piece shows those children's dreams held safe inside a box and to never be opened, yet kept safe and envied.
I painted the back of the box with black paint mixed with silver, glitter paint in hopes it would look like a starry night. It didn't quite work to what i wanted so to improve it i would try painting in more delicate measure, for instance painting little stars before adding the black coat.  Around the edge i painted with deep blue and white to make it look cloudy, like a fog revealing the fairy. I like mixing the paint on the canvas as the way it mixes is not in my control and enjoy the nique turn out, i especially like the bottom left corner for the delicate change in gradient and paint strokes. The statue itself is mine i put it in a box a few years ago when my room was decorated from what i had as a child because i grew up.
To develop this piece i would create a larger box where more toys cane be placed in, i would paint the surroundings to look like a fantasy land so they unreal toys look at home. i could do another version where people bring their old, unused toy to put in the box and see what i get, i could either vte inspired and create something new or after i am finished with the toys i could give them away to other kids who would use them.
