Taking A Line For A Walk

"Drawing is like taking a line for a walk"- Paul Klee.

When first looking into line i got a little
stuck with what to do. After looking through some artists i focused on Avery Ascher who uses fabric; her artwork was very intriguing, using fabrics to create scenery. As a fan of using fabrics i decided i wanted to include patterns.
The main artist we looked at was Piet Mondrian as his use of lines and colours was very interesting and it gave me the idea to create prints and use fabrics to fill the gaps. I felt this idea was not quite what we were suppose to do with experimenting with line as i have experience with printing before, but it was a starting point to get me thinking about line. The last artist was Beth Jenkins who creates very detailed line lino prints exaggerating the use of bold lines in her work.
Began by making different types of prints, experimenting with the fabrics in different ways. Once they were all put together i grew interested with the lines created in the gaps between the fabric and line print. Despite it being an empty gap it created a fixed look in the piece and it can be found anywhere. For instance the gaps between each individual piece created lines therefore brought all the pieces together to create a bigger one and layers of different lines.

With the idea of creating lines using gaps i thought how this could be applied to everyday objects or places if it occured naturally. To develop this piece i think i will look at using objects to create lines and experiment with other things, like suitcases or boxes, to see the outcome.
