After burning down the candle wax i had a few ideas. One was creating a scenery with melted wax layered on top of each other. This idea sounds cool but would be difficult to control so i decided to not follow through. Instead i decided to paint a scenery on the outside and combine that idea with the catching fairies in jars that sometimes are shown in fictional films and stories. In a way i was bringing this fictional piece alive.
I left the black soot on the inside of the jar as the way it naturally faded hid the string the fairies were held up by and also appeared like the night sky. Therefore making the main focus the painting on the outside of the jar, the only way to notice the fairies is if you look closely which i felt was fitting as in films kids always notice the unusual things happening as adults don't believe anymore or won't listen.

I painted snowy ground and hills around the outside by dabbing the brush on the jar, then pressing the side of the brush to create lines for the dead trees. I think creating a few more jars but with different seasons around the outside would look good. As if showing snow fairies, flower fairies etc for each season. Additionally it would be cool if the fairies were hidden in the wax and are revealed as the candle melted in the jar. Furthermore, to improve this i would definitely want to develop the quality of painting, add more details and make the trees look more real. Maybe add more features like birds or small wild land animals to add to the of magical things existing in the real world.

I cut the small fairies out of my favourite colouring book i had as a child. They were already coloured in with different pencil colours as if they had a specific magical glow. To develop this i would draw my own version of fairies adding small details to the dresses and wings so it corresponded to the seasonal jar they belonged to. I would then use colours that work with that for instance pink and other flowery colours for spring/summer, then red and orange for autumn, and finally icy blue white and violet for winter. I could also make the fairies like small dolls or fabric dolls so they aren't 2D but it would be difficult with sizing in the jar. I stuck the fairies on by using string and gluing it to the jar lid. I also included petals to hide the string on the lid, for other jars i could use leaves for Autumn etc. I also like the idea of creating a crown around the jar lid using plants like twigs, leaves and flowers to make it look more real. Instead, due to not having the material, i tied a purple bow around the top. I thought it added a homely sense to it as if it was normal to have a jar of fairies. It also appears like a gift and i like the idea of children being fascinated with the idea of owning some small fairies that would care for them. This made me think further about the idea and thought using paint that glows in the dark would work best to make the fairies glow and look magically at night.
