Galaxy

This piece was the second one i did using cling film as i found it interesting how the paint mixed and spread on the material. I also wanted to look at how the paint looked on something transparent if held up to the light- i feel it didn't work well in this piece as i painted it on too thick therefore blocking the lights passage. However some light did come through pink. To fix this i would need to experiment with how thick the paint is and possibly adding some PVA glue to the mix.
I decided to do a galaxy as they are always mesmerising to look at and there is so much we don't know about them. It was also inspire by a daydream i had to the song dream state by Son Lux as it involved moving through the night sky, space even.
I'm not entirely impressed with how this turned out. Using a brush i dabbed the paints i had put on the page, white, light and dark blue. I tried to fade them in to each other but when i added the black on top the colours didn't quite mix. I needed to add more blue and minimise the black paint as it bacem too dominant. I was afraid to build up too much paint on the page. I decided to try mix in some acrylic bead gel as it was a new thing i had never used before and i wanted to see its effects. The beads added some texture and worked well as stars or dust in space. For a bigger impact i need to build up the mix more and i look forward to seeing what interesting texture i can create in other pieces.
Cling film is a nice material to mix paint on as it is so smooth. For this i put a mix of purple, pink red and white paints and then mixed them in loosely so the colours still differentiated. I would definitely use cling film to create abstract paint mixing as u can press the cling film together and mix the paint by pushing it around. I did this technique later on with a plastic bag.
I did the opposite colours to the blue and black as the cling film acts as a mask like people do with their emotions. However, people can only hold back their feelings for so long before they start to seep through, hence the blue and black showing through through the cling film. For both paintings i forgot to do the stars which i think would've helped show what they are easier.Overall i like this idea as it has many interesting options as it creates two different paintings that can become one. For instance doing a drawing of a bare, broken building on paper. Then colourful painting of plants and scenery on the cling film which would be layered on top. This could show the reality on paper then the dream a person viewed on the cling film. The biggest improvement needed for this piece is the painting and mixing of the paint colours, i need to develop a better technique to paint galaxies.
